CM Alpha 2 Released

So far so good. Looking forward to seeing the improvements to battery life.

I see lots of reports of a endless reboot cycle, no issues for you?

Did you upgrade from Alpha 1 or start from scratch?

(edit) Hmmm, wondering if the 2.1 Alpha is the answer to the freezing/rebooting ... Waiting for some reports.

Yeah did do the boot loop, I just left it alone to do its thang and it sorted its self out after about 4-6 cycles, all good after that :)

NB. Updated over the top of Alpha 1.

I did a CW upgrade from alpha 1 with no problems.

Pushing me closer to an install, good to hear.

I've been digging a bleeding great hole for 4 days solid (water tank coming). I deserve a day of techie bliss tomorrow.

Go for it. No endless reboot, just installed on top of alpha 1 after wiping cache and dalvik vm.

Standy battery life seems improved. Less than 1% drain per hour with wifi on.

Took me a couple off tries but finally got it. Wifi is working beautifully and the touchpad finally sleeps

Wifi seems better than before and the throughput seems much higher. BTW isn't pulse reader an amazing app, much better than the frankly woeful options on WebOS.

Updated from Alpha 1 using ClockWork Mod without any problems. No apps loss, no data loss. Still have webOS 3.0.4 available as well on dual boot.

I agree, Pulse is slick. WebOS has a rip off called Mosaic that was okay but they made it more aesthetically pleasing than functional.

OK, I'm in.

2.1 Installation worked like a charm, I've got the market set-up, the wi-fi seems to be hanging in there and it's all performing very well indeed.

Sharp as you like

Is there a comprehensive install guide to doing this? I don't want to screw anything up!

When you download ACMEInstaller.zip there is a readme file in there, the instructions are very good.

I also recommend watching this video before doing anything:
greentheonly's Channel - YouTube

You also need to read the first post of this, epic, thread:
[RELEASE][ALPHA2][Discussion] CyanogenMod team Touchpad port

In short, and this isn't a substitute for reading the official instructions ;)

- Back everything on the TP up. I didn't so I can't give advice on this, I am an idiot though

- Make sure you have novacom installed (on a PC it will probably be in C:\Program Files\Palm, Inc)

- Download and copy the ACMEInstaller file to the same directory that novacom.exe is in (not the zip, the file itself, it doesn't have an extension)

- Connect TP to PC and select 'USB Mode'

- Create a 'cminstall' directory in the root of the TP and put the alpha 2 rom image, moboot, clockwork recovery and google apps zips in there (see rootzwiki thread for links)

- moboot gives you the boot menu and allows a boot back to webOS, clockwork recovery is used for installing stuff, amongst other things and google apps will give you the market

- Unmount TP ('Eject' in PC language) but don't unplug the USB cable

- Reboot TP holding volume up key until white USB symbol appears

- Navigate to where the novacom.exe and the ACMEInstaller files are (using a command prompt)

- Type a command (details in the ACMEInstaller.zip file)

- Wait for the magic to happen

Never tried that - I purchased tea-reader, it's OK but nothing more than that - Pulse has so many other features that it's fantastic (sync across devices, ability to post directly to facebook and twitter etc etc).

Installed last night (coming from nothing but webOS, I'm fresh meat!). Installation went smoothly, and things are running fine. Had to use LCDDensity to set pixel density. Other than that and video, things seem pretty smooth.

What do you do with LCDDensity?

It allows you to set custom resolutions. I have had okay luck with it on my D2, I have not tried it on the TP, most apps will work normally but many will not display correctly with the custom resolutions.

It is free on the market if you want to give it a shot.
