CM7 A2: Won't finish booting.

Hello All,

I've been using Alpha2 CM7 for about a week and I really like it. Today, it won't boot.

Last Wednesday, I took the brand new TP out of the box and immediately upgraded webOS to 3.0.4. The next day, I loaded Alpha2 CM7 on it. It's been nothing but fun since. I don't have Preware on it, and I have a handful of apps on the CM7 side. On a normal day, I reboot back and forth between webOS 3.0.4 and CM7 A2 two or three times.

Now when I try reboot CM7, it stays at the spinning circle/arrow forever. The arrow keeps moving, so I don't know if it's hung or if some file got damaged, etc. Pressing buttons for a long time doesn't help and only the power-home-longPress stops it (back to the boot menu). I can always reboot back into webOS just fine.

I haven't installed apps on either OS since last night. This morning, it was working fine until I rebooted into webOS and then later tried to reboot into CM7.

I discovered the "boot ClockworkMod" tool and selected "Show log", then "Report Error". They are below.

Is there a file damaged or something?
Will I have to re-install CM7?
How to fix?

TIA.

Okay, I found the solution to this problem. It's already been logged as bug/issue 346.

For me, I tried, among other things, to uninstall CM7 and reinstall it. No workie. The trick was to format the /data and /cache filesystems. I did that five times each according to Issue 346 thread.

darn I can't find the bug list but I'd like to ask this anyway:

This problem has been my number one (and really ONLY) issue with CM7. Is there an easy way to restore and backup the data partition? I guess after the boot loop starts it's too late at that point to save what's on the data partition? or is it possible to do a CM7 backup and then advanced restore of just data (or does that just replicate the defective partition)?

I have no advice about the backup and restore but the bug list is here:

Issues - cmtouchpad - Android port for HP Touchpad - Google Project Hosting

The devs have asked people not to post there unless they have a new bug and have confirmed it is not 'user error' ;)

can someone go into ELABORATE detal about this issue i am having so much trouble ud help a stranger out so much plz plz plz and thank u

Is your problem exactly like my first post (post #1)? If so, the solution might be my second post, (post #2).

yea my solution is the second post but honest,y I have no idea what the second post is talking about that's way I'm saying

Boot into recovery, choose with volume up and down buttons, search for format cache and format data..apply..done..back to reboot system and reboot..

Boot into recovery, choose with volume up and down buttons, search for format cache and format data..apply..done..back to reboot system and reboot..

is it : boot to recovery , then

wipe data/factory reset , select item "yes" ??
wipe cache partition , select item "yes" ??

leave others marked "no" alone in each case ?

then back to "reboot system now" ??

trying to clarify , snce terms used differ from actual text .

thanks

boot to ClockworkMod

go to "mounts and storage"

"format /cache" , select item "yes"
"format /data" , select item "yes"

leave others marked "no" alone in each case

then back to "reboot system now"

verified ,

this actually worked , wiped my settings and data , but i am back in
. what is suggested to keep this from happening over again . load apps thru clockworkmod ?
can i back up in the future and reload ?

thanks

I don't think there's a workaround. It's just one of those bugs that need to be fixed. If you come up with a backup/recovery method, let us know.

i'm following the

TeamWin Recovery Project (twrp)
