Hey all!

I manually flashed and rooted my phone a few weeks back. Being that I really like Go Launcher I thought to go to CM7 and I wouldn't miss Sense much. Well, I kind of miss it :)

I have found a handful of apps to replace many of the things I liked but it is not the same. I wanted to try a Sence Rom and saw that Skyraider was a blend o Sense and CM7.

Question is: If I use Rom Manager to do this flash, do I need to wipe my phone completely every time I flash my phone? Seems like a lot of reinstalling of apps, and losing a lot of stored data in many of those apps. I would like to try Skyraider but don't want to start from scratch every time I try a rom.

How do people flash all the time and not have that frustration?

Thanks all for your comments and advise.

Yes - You have to do a full wipe of Data, Cache and Dalvik when switching ROM's. Otherwise you're in for a very rough go.

The simple answer to the headache question is... We're gluttons for punishment, and Nandroid is your friend. Make a nandroid before switching ROM's and if the new ROM does not work out you can restore your old ROM just as it was with no muss or fuss.

Try My Backup Pro or Titanium to backup your apps. Plus use Appbrain to keep track.

This thread may help.

Also use the Gmail Contacts and Calendar, they help getting the essentials back quickly.

Nandroid and titanium will be your best friends once you start flashing.

Before you flash from a ROM you really like, make a nandroid back up then do a backup of your apps with titanium. Once the new Rom is up and running do a batch restore from titanium if you want to be quick about it just don't restore the system data. Or, take the long road and restore them one by one but this time choosing the app data to restore (angry birds and card star)

All in all it just takes a bit of time. Flash a ROM or two (or five) and you get a routine down. After a while it'll only take like 45 mins start to finish and you'll be back up and running.

Or you'll decide the Rom isn't worth it in which case you can restore your nandroid and *puff* your back like nothing ever happened...just like Einstein the dog in "Back to the Future".

And a bit of advice...learn to flash manually in recovery and don't rely on ROM manager. At some point you'll need to know how to do it manually anyway, might as well do all your flashing that way...you'll save yourself a lot of heartache.

Back when I had my incredible... I found Skyraider to be my favorite ROM of all time... just my opinion... if you do try it, let me know what you think... I loved it more than any other rom

Pville and Wanda, as usual, are 100% correct. Nandroid backup and use Titanium or My Backup Pro to backup your apps. Then you can flash whatever rom you want and restore your apps.

As for Skyraider, think of it as CM7 with Sense. :)
