I'm not very well versed with this rooting stuff, but why is there no "CM8"? Isn't CyanogenMod currently on 7 (which I believe is based on Gingerbread)? I'm assuming 9 would be based on Ice Cream Sandwich, but then what is 8? Did they just skip that number, or something? I'm confused how that works.

CM8 would probably have been based on Honeycomb. I guess they're leaving it in case they come back and build something.

CM8 was reserved for a version based on Honeycomb.

They skipped CM8 because Honeycomb was never open sourced.
