Collection of Dust in the Evo's Earpiece

Anybody know of a easy/safe way to get all the freakin' dust out of the earpiece on the Evo? It's not affecting call quality, and the rest of my Evo is in perfect condition so it's really bothering me. I've already gone at it with an airduster, and that seems to remove some of the dust, but there's some really stubborn particles hanging out down in there and i'm deathly afraid of using a cleaning solution for fear of borking the earpiece.

I agree the indented earpiece grill is a dust magnet, huge design flaw imo.

I use an old toothbrush. I don't like to use air because it forces dust farther into the speaker.

Huge Design flaw?

The Pre would have metal shavings stuck to the earpiece and back... this is nothing in comparison.

Toothbrush sounds like a decent idea... I'm going to bust out my camera cleaning kit on this thing today. Yay for OCD!

I use a folded over piece of scotch tape and that works well. I would have tried masking tape like on a lint roller but that might have been too thick. Plus with the scotch tape, you can see what you picked up.

It's acually easier than phones that just have a little speaker hole.

I agree with the toothbrush or shop vac idea.

And it's way easier to clean this phone than the pre IMO.

Dust is normal guys.. This is not a design flaw, it happens. We don't live in dust free air. LOL

This is gross- but... pre chewed chewing gum. It will remove the dust and as long as you pick a more firm kind (not stringy bubble gum- try a trident or similar) it will not be suck behind.

Moisten slightly, chew, work w/ your fingers just a bit so it's not grossly wet and dab. The gum will remove along w/ all the grime. Cleaned up my pre's speaker extremely well. No idea how that gross idea came to mind... and I only did it once.

In hindsight- silly putty might work.

The best way to keep the earpiece clean is to preemptively clean it.

Use q-tips and clean out those ears, you unkempt, unhygienic, filthy creatures.

haha... jk. I agree that it is easier to clean than the Pre.

Gross? Yeah, but also creative. I can see the silly putty working, too. I mean it takes ink off of newspaper so it has to pick up dust, right? :p

Slightly OT, but whatever: It's threads like this one, with replies like those found here, that make me keep coming back to these boards. I'm totally serious. Phone geeks rule.

I returned my Pre so many times because of this. I am so afraid of this happening to my EVO, I check it constantly. It was so annoying!
