So I wanna (probably) get in to this whole rooting of the Evo, at least enogh to enjoy it a little more. (and I already love the thing) But it is more on the confusing part.

I have read up on the forums what I need to do to Root. Cool, looks simple enough. That's not my question.

Off the top of my head there are a few things I wanna do
1. Get rid of bloatware (read up on that, looks simple)
2. On the Pre I loved the battery percentage in the Top Bar I want that back
3. Possibly get rid of the clock in the top bar. Look how many widgets there are with a clock, I know same with battery % but still, it's preference. (HTC Sense LP+)

Those are the basics I wanna start with... I am under the impression there is some type of ROM I may need for that? Or can I root and go within linux and tweak this stuff? (with help)

I don't think I need to overclock/underclock and I've looked into the wifi teather, and when 4G is in my area, you'll be darn sure I'll want that.

TIA and sorry for noob questions, but I do have some knowledge and I have been reading, I promise.

Its not like the Pre where you just go in there within linux and tell it to display something and not another thing. I haven't seen a phone not display the time in the top bar, but that doesn't mean it can't be done. I have seen the battery bar display the percentage, might want to check xda for some flashable zips (once you get into rooting/ROMing, you'll be very familiar with flashing). It would be in their theme's section of the evo. Trust me, wifi tether is very nice, even on 3g. Its much faster than 3g on the phone cause your computer's processor can render the information faster than your phone. I get 2.5 download in my area on 3g(gotten over 3 once), not bad since most 4g averages are around 3-4 download. The benefit of 4G is the upload, despite it being limited. I'm on a Hero, so it wouldn't matter if 4g was in my area (which it isn't).

Ya you are right on the 3G, I teathered with my Pre all the time (USB) and thought that was pretty snappy, considering.

The otherthing I am looking at is Battery life. Been reading up on that stuff too. This morning I was walking to work (about 45 min of MP3 playing) And I dropped 40% in that time, granted my wifi was on without being used but wow 40% drop.

But battery life is off topic; back to rooting, and I will have to looking into this flashing of zips! Thanks!

Unfortunately you are going to find modifying android is more complicated and restrictive than WebOS. You do most of what you could with your Pre, its just going to take more steps and different methods.

As far as ROM's go, I would check out Cyanogen Mod 6. They just released RC2 and it is pretty good. Between it and ADW launcher (comes with CM6) You can tether, add battery percentage and change the color of the clock and status bar. You can also hide / auto hide the status bar with a swipe up (Very Palm Pre).

I would suggest the following apps.

Titanium backup (Back up your apps so when you move from ROM to ROM you keep them and data)

ROM Manager (Kinda like a very simple version of PreWare. Allows you to restore, backup and save ROMS, reboot into recovery and load .zips that are kinda like patches.

The nice things about Android is there is no need for Pre Ware. The Market allows pretty much anything, so you don't need to go into the black market very often for basic apps. The really useful stuff is taking elements of different android phones and bringing them into one phone, one of the plus sides to Android being fragmented.

I didn't like Android's rooting process as much as the Pre's.

But now I love it. I didn't like patches because I felt like, the more patches I put on, the slower my Pre would get.

The roms you flash will make your phone faster, period. The Pre wouldn't get much faster without killing the battery life.

Thanks!!! Ya I figured. So the unrEVOked is only for those with 2.1? I guess that wasn't really clear (until now) to me. :D  oh well.

I've never used it but I think if your on 2.1 and running unrevoked forever (I think that's what it's called) and you update, you still have root.
