Comparable phones to the EVO 4G?

So I bought my Evo 4G at the beginning of this month and I love the phone.

This is my first time using Android and I love almost everything about it.

My only problem is the battery.. my phone can't make it through a full day without needing a charge.

I run task killer, keep GPS, 4G, Wifi, etc turned off, but starting at 8AM my phone is usually dead or close to it by 6PM.

So, I'm wondering, are there any phones comparable out right now (or coming out in the next month or 2) that have a better battery?

Instead of going through the hassle of returning your evo and getting a different phone, you could just buy an extra battery

I've thought about it, but the phone is already fairly huge as is.. carrying around an extra battery at all times would not be fun.

The only comparable phones currently available are the iPhone 4 and probably the Incredible. Then you have the coming Droid X and Samsung's Galaxy S line.

None of these are going to have a ton more battery life though. These new generation smartphones all use more power, it's just something to get used to. If you aren't able to charge your phone during the day, just get an extra battery and be done with it.

have you applied the OTA update yet? I was having the same issue, and annoyed at having to bring my charger to work... after installing the update things seem much better. I run at pretty much the same settings as you it seems like. Unplugged at 8am today, it's 10:30pm now and still have 6 bars on the battery meter, much happier now!

Try these, no need for extra bulk:

what he said. if you didnt install the ota yet do it now and see what you think. it vastly improved my battery. today I did about 15 minutes of gps, about 30 pictures though out the day (i went to the zoo), and played on my phone for my 4 hour class (i didnt learn much, lol) and i still had like 20 percent battery at 11 pm. so it lasted 12 hours for me with medium to heavy usage. before the update i was recharging at 5-8 pm.

Turn off GPS when your not using it. The phone still has the location finding through the towers. So when your not using Nav, shut the GPS off. It will help a ton! Also ditch the task killer... Android is designed to keep apps in the background but not running, and will shut off apps on it's own. Also have you down the battery calibration trick?

Thanks for the replied, everyone.

Woke up this morning and finally had my update available.
HUGE difference.

Where I my phone was to the point of dying before I got home from work it's now chilling at 25% and I've been home for a good 3 hours.

I think I will keep my darling Evo <3

Now if only I could get it to stop disconnecting myself when I plug it into the computer.

Dude I love this phone so much that I carry an ext batt everyday for work n I don't even feel it in my back pocket, n I work as a floor installer n no problems!!! Yeah I had a thread about the update and battery life.
It significantly increases it for most people.

Hope you like your new Evo. It's really a sick phone... just gotta customize it and make it yours, which is the fun part.
