*EDIT* So I decided to go out and take some photos in different environments to try and figure this camera out. It seems when in bright conditions, as some have posted here, that the camera does really well. It has an easier time focusing and the photos come out much sharper. It also does a good job of reducing glare when facing the sun. When I took the same pic with my old 4s the glare took over the picture.

One down side I see with the S5 images is that you can see that the images look 'processed' when zooming in, almost animated. Not a big deal, just something I noticed.

Sorry, some of the pics are sideways.

Heres a comparison between an iPhone 4s 8 MP and the Galaxy s5 16 MP. Both taken from the exact same position within a minute of each other.

Ive tried different settings on the galaxy, and I can't get it to continually take great pictures. Only every so often I will get a good one. This picture here is one of the better ones. I would expect much more with double the MP.

I think you're missing the point. My iPhone 4S is 3 years old with only 8 MP. My galaxy is 1.5 months old with a 16 MP camera. In my opinion it should blow the iphone camera out of the water. The pictures don't look that different, and I always have a hard time getting a clear picture.

Ok i no its hard to see what is going on here with out taking the pics apart
But Yes the iphone is good but the Resolution is Not the reason its closer is because the resolution is lower
and you can set this on the S5
with out the original file its hard
the coulours are washed
Megapixels are only as good as the Camera I have a 6.5 Mega pixel Pentax that will take a 1GB pic if i let it that will walk the floor with these
also Put the 4S against a 5S and the 4S will win why well the camera lens on the 4S was alot better
it was how steve jobs wanted it to be now its a after thought
The best phone that i have seen is the Sony as they have taken what they no from DSLR cameras and put this into a Phone
But the Samsung is still a good camera

Now as a Photographer and this being a jpeg file and not Raw i was impressed

This was taken earlier today while at a store. This is typical quality of the pictures I get. Not sharp at all. Zoom in on it.

I've actually found iphones to have really excellent cameras. Last year I was trying to take a pic of my wife and her best friend with my Moto Razr M. They were in the shade and there was a sunny landscape in the background. Even with fill-in flash, the Moto pic was ok at best. The iphone took a perfect pic, first try, with no fiddling. I think the difference is in the software. I'm hoping the S5 will have better pic quality than my old Moto.

I have always found the iphone cameras to be grainy and having a bad focus. Galaxy S5 camera is leagues ahead of iphone in my opinion.

what we need to bare in mind here is the camara on all smart phones a so small they use Lenses to make the pic bigger
Under steve Jobs the Iphone was improved by lenses see pic
optique-iphone-4s.jpg
and Sony used carl zeiss to make there lenses
Sony-Xperia-Z1-camera-tech.jpg
but at the end of the day its only as good as the software and the place
even with DSLR cameras pro camera men can see the difference but were taking mega money
Just enjoy the camera for what it is also take a shot and zoom in this is were the mega pixals come in
on 0 zoom the iphone may win but use a PC to edit the pic and this is were less pixel means it grains out faster
at the end for the size of the Camera what realy do we expect
But try the Video on a S5 then watch it on a 4K TV WOW

The s5 is lacking in low light ability but will destroy an iphone when the sun is out, it really just depends on situation

Try other Camera apps the Google stock one is good or camera 360
You may find those fix the low light if its a software issue

Well I believe that iPhone may have better camera features than Galaxy but sometimes compare to iPhone, Galaxy gives good picture quality specially sharpness and settings if you choose carefully.

Yeah. It blows me away sometimes how my friend will snap a quick pic with her four year old iPhone 4 and the photo she takes completely craps all over the one I take on my brand new S5 when we snap a pic of the same thing. I'm not saying the S5 can't take some gorgeous photos, because it can, but iPhones just seem to be able to take really good pics even on the first try way more consistently.

Now, comparing the quality of two camera based on one shot is a bit tough.. but YMMV... the S4's camera actually scored quite well on most reviews, coming out on top on several.

But looking at those two pics, the bottom pic is, to me, the better one here. Look at the table and plate. On the iPhone's shot, it seems as though, in an attempt to make the darker portion better, they overexposed the rest of the shot.... On the Samsung's shot, you can make out detail on the plate.. and I think I can also make out what appears to be a reflection of the trees outside on the bright portion of the table. On the iPhone, that is all washed out, along with detail on the blinds and .... Not being in that room, the S4's shot seems to have better coloring...the iPhone's looks too yellow (especially the tree outside).

It's only a fair comparison if the settings are the same. I'm guessing here that they are not. Both cameras take great pictures. If you are an amateur photographer both serve the purpose very well. If you're a professional, you're not really using this device.

I had the same issues on my One and S4 when I had them. Try to download some other software. It didn't really work for me but it might for you. Is the shutter lag present on the S5?

If you are looking for total control over the camera download the free version of FV-5 and see how that works. I would imagine most of us use the "auto" mode on both cameras and that to makes quite a difference.

16 MP is alot to play with especially if you are doing any enlarging ... that where it makes a difference.
