Compatability with Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact

I'm after obtaining a Gear S3, and already own a Xperia XZ1 Compact. Will an S3 be compatible with it, or are there any issues that I need to be aware of?

I used to run my gear S2 with a Z5C a while back. it works fine, but three are some features that won't work with non-Samsung phones such as messaging. Not sure about Samsung pay though since I didn't try it on the gear S2 and I don't know if can be downloaded on it's own. I'm on the gear S3 now and had been using it with Samsung phones (s7 to s8 to s9+).
