Confused with multiple email clients

I am trying to configure email on my phone. First, why am I getting two notifications for the same email? Also when I click on an email icon that has a number next to it I get into one client, but if I drop notification bar down and choose the email notification I am getting into another client and that's the one I actually prefer. Please help.

Did you set up your e-mail account in different clients?

Maybe you set up the GMail account in both the GMail app and the phone's stock e-mail app, and that could explain the double notifications. If this is the case, just deactivate the account from the app you don't like.

Happened to my dad the other day.

Just like Spook said, maybe you have configured for example the stock e-mail app and Aquamail with the same email.

when you go into settings>accounts you can remove the stock email account that is configured which, essentially, disables it or you can got into the stock email app and turn off notifications so it won't give you dual notifications for the same email account.

to disable notifications just launch the stock email app and in the upper right click "more>settings>email notifications" and you'll be able to turn off notifications
