Hey guys, Heres a question that iam not so sure is dumb or not but you know when you double tap the home button and swipe away the apps??? Is that actually closing the apps or are they still open in the background? I ask because i always thought that was how you close apps but if i go into 'manage apps' and view 'running apps' it clearly shows apps are still open?? Are these 'running apps' consuming much battery also?

I also wonder about this. Multitasking is fine, but I don't want apps I am not going to use for a while to run behind the scenes wasting battery....

Those apps are not wasting battery. Its a recent app list that are cached. Android system in self monitors this and closes them as needed. What kills batteries are the sync times of email, Facebook, and the like.

First post here.
I too was wondering about this and it turns out the apps previously opened just sit in memory cache so it can launch faster next time you go to it. It does not "run" in the background using up cpu/battery.

"Unlike a PC where you must manage memory yourself by closing programs, the Android OS (2.2 and above) is meant to manage memory and processes on its own. Let's say the user launches an application. This app will then stay in memory until it absolutely needs to be closed. This is done to improve application launch time; the app will "run" in the background ? leaving battery and performance essentially unaffected ? ready to be launched again at any moment."
