Confusion about my version of Android

I know this may sound like a stupid question, but I am a serious noob when it comes to Android. I switched from webOS less than a week ago and I am a bit lost.

Actually, I have two questions.

1. On my Evo, how do I find out what version of Android the phone is running?
2. I know that the version may be outdated. If that is the case, how do I upgrade to the latest version of Android?

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance! :)

Welcome, I see you are pretty close geographically to me.

If you go into (from a home screen):

Menu > Settings > About phone > Software information

If you look down at the "Software number" entry, that is probably the one you are looking for. If you are running the latest official software it will be 3.70.651.1

If you are running an earlier version (or just want to check anyway) and want to update go into (from a home screen):

Menu > Settings > System updates > HTC software update

That will update your phone if you aren't already up to date. It does give you some options and you should only update when you are on a full (or near full) charge and I would recommend being plugged into a power outlet.
