NOTE: Prior to having to manually reset the modem/router due to something happening over night, the following worked...

System:

  • Nexus 7
  • Android 5.1
  • Wireless network
  • File Manager HD 3.3.1
  • Read message for additional hardware

I've tried everything I can think of, but I cannot log into my Mac via a network Wi-Fi connection when using File Manager HD. :(

Other network devices, 3 Win machines, printer, and TV show up. I can connect to 2 of the Win machines with no problem. The 3rd machine is currently down, but I'm assuming it will also work once I've assigned the new IP address to it in File Manager. Never tried connecting to the TV, didn't get that far and not that interested at the time. And my understanding is that printing from a tablet can be problematical, for reasons I don't remember. If the printer situation has changed, would like to know. :)

The hardwired network connections work fine. Read and write from any A to any B, no problem. I can read and write from the Nexus to the computers. Can't login from computers to Nexus, but I understand I need to root the Nexus which I've never done. It is on the to do list.

I've checked, double checked, quadruple checked the login info in File Manager HD, see no issues.

Stumped.

Anyone have any thoughts?

If you're using internal IP addresses to connect to other devices, and you reset the router, recheck all the device addresses. The odds of all of them staying the same is 1 in 720 for 6 devices - so they probably changed, and you didn't say whether you changed the Nexus' "idea" of the Mac's IP address.

It also may have to do with whether you're assigning static IP addresses to devices, and whether those addresses are in the DHCP range. (That doesn't work on some of the better routers - it shouldn't work on any router.)

When I first reset the router, nothing worked, I wasn't expecting that result. Then when I thought about the IP addresses, I checked the device list in the router. After changing the IP addresses for all items in File Manager, everything worked except the Mac.

Please clarify, what do you mean by the "idea" of the Mac's IP address?

I did not set any static IP addresses.

Hmmmmmmmmmm.

<A short time later>

Well, I'll be damned. Problem solved.

I was just about to write additional info. Specifically this... "All the systems require you to select the account name and enter the password to login except the Mac." And it hit me. I took a look at File Manager and sure enough, I was having File Manager to login using the account name and password. Removed them, and it worked fine! LOL

This experience just proves the advantage of "brainstorming", the opportunity to talk about the problem with someone else.

Got some sharing issues to sort out with an external drive, but I'm 99.9% sure that's because the external drive is formatted NTFS, not OS X Extended (Journaled). I used to have a smaller HD in that "spot" but was running out of room so switched the drives. The smaller drive was OS X formatted and worked IIRC.

Thanks for taking the time to reply, and give me the opportunity to look at things from a different perspective.
