Hello :)

This may seem like a stupid question because I could just use a PC. But I have a 1TB external USB 3 hard drive (with power adaptor) and I would like to know if I can plug it directly into my Note 8's USB port (given I find the necessary cables) and copy my pictures and videos from the Note 8 to the USB drive?

And can I do the same with a USB pendrive?

Many thanks. :)

Your Note 8 should have came with a USB C to USB adapter. That is what you need for a pen drive or hard drive. However your external hard drives will need to be self powered.

Excellent!

And...... thanks so much for reminding me about the adapters which came with the phone. LOL.. I've only had the phone for a month and already forgotten about those adaptors. I just wasted a load of time working out which cables I would need to buy.....I dont even need to buy any at all. :D

WHat a good idea. I don't know why I've never thought of that, I usually save to my laptop and then transfer to my ext hard drive. DUH.

yes I am sure u can...today only I just connected 1tb hard drive to my honor 8 pro and it worked fine...I am sure same note 8 can handle..just sold my honor 8 to and got note 8...just getting use to it...1st day

Funny, when I connect a 256 gig with an adapter or even 64 Gig to my or wife's N8 it is not recognized. Any Ideas as to why I assumed it's because we have a 256 gig card in them, and nothing else shows up in file manager when inserted in.

I'm afraid humble moi can't help. But I'm sure someone else will be along to help soon.

Ok, after reading on this thread, I decided to look further into this. I had not tried it using a USB Drive, only a micro plug. USB does indeed work to a thumb drive. Thanks for the info.

Well, I just added to my flash drive collection a Sandisk Ultra Fit 64GB which is absolutely tiny. That connected to the small converter which came with my Note 8 is still smaller than many flash drives so is ideal for me.I formatted it with exFat filesystem so I can use it both with my PC and Note 8.

Normally I just copy files to and from PC/Note 8 over my home network but this little fella will come in very handy when I'm out and about.

I've also treated myself to a Samsung EVO plus 64 GB class 10 U3 microsdxc card. I got plenty of storage no for what I need. :D

What format are the drives in if it's ntfs the phones and tablets have issues seeing it

I use this triple adapter to connect three flash drives to my Note 8. Works great.
