Connection issues with Zenfone Live 1

I have this Zenfone Live 1 L1 smartphone I purchased in January this year and it worked OK until a few weeks ago. The problem: both the Wi-Fi and the mobile data connection.

Wi-Fi
When I start to download updates from Google Play, the app says it's downloading but nothing happens for minutes. And sometimes it says download pending.

I searched and found some fixes, like forgetting then restarting my home registered network. It worked for the first time, but the issue is still here.

The only solution that works is: I start downloading the updates and restart the phone. When it's back, most of times the download is completed and the update installed, and a few times the download or the update installation is still in progress.

When I download stuff from browsers it works OK, so I guess the issue has to do with Google Play.

FYI is the first time it happens to me, I mean, I had three other phones before (Samsung, Asus, and Motorola) and they never had any problem to connect to my home network like this.

What is wrong and how to fix it once and for all?

Mobile data
When I start the mobile data connection it doesn't start and its icon doesn't show in the phone's upper bar. I googled and tried some fixes TNA.

The only way to make it work is go to Settings > Connections and choose my only carrier (TIM) and one of the two APNs I have associated to the carrier. Only then the connection works.

Same question here. TIA.

For the downloading issue, try going to Settings>Apps, select Google Play Store, tap Storage, and Clear Cache/Clear Data, then Force Stop. Do the same for Download Manager -- you probably have to tap Menu>Show System to see it. Now try again.

For the mobile data issue, which APN is it defaulting to?

Try wiping the cache partition, which can be helpful for various kinds of issues: https://www.hardreset.info/devices/asus/asus-zenfone-live-l1/wipe-cache/

I have two APNs. One is the originally set when I purchased the phone, the other I created following a tip I found on YouTube about increasing the connection speed. No matter which one I use, I always have to make it start manually.
