Connectivity issues?

I had an issue several times today where if I went on the internet, I couldn't get a connection. I first noticed I wasn't on 4G and wasn't able to connect to a site my wife was with her IPhone. I then tried other sites and I kept getting the prompt 'connectivity lost'...or something like that.

Once I rebooted the phone I was OK, but I'd not seen that before. Has anyone else had that issue?

I'm having this issue again today. It seems as soon as it drops a 4G signal it has problems with connectivity. Headed to a Verizon store today to see what they say.

Having this issue along with many others. Almost wishing I would of stayed with the TB. I am hoping it is just a bad phone. And its happening to my 3G

Brackett5, how long have you had the issue? I just noticed it yesterday and I have more bad news. Verizon just replaced my Charge with a brand new one....same issue! I absolutely can not get out on the 3G network. I even tried rebooting the new phone and it's the same story.

Since I don't remember having this happen in the last week or two, I'm hoping this is a Verizon network issue. If this is inherent in 4G, it's an absolute deal-breaker for me. I can't use a phone that can get data 'sometimes'.

I just got the charge last night and was having the same issue, not connected or dropping out of 4G into 3G, coming from a TB I knew I had 4G where I was and I could swap the sim card and not have the problem with the TB. They swapped out the phone this morning and I will drop into 3G coverage once and a while but for the most part it is in 4G, only thing I did different was not do the update from verizon

I think its the new software update. I was having gps issues on my original Charge and swapped it out for a new one at the store yesterday. Now I seem to be having the 4G/3G in and out issue :( I tried doing a hard reset w/hardware buttons to see if would take the update off but no such luck..

This is really bad guys. This phone (with the update at least...if that's the issue) can not get data when in the 3G mode. As a matter of fact, it's pretty easy to demonstrate no matter where you are. Simply go in to the settings and disable 'LTE' and force it in to 3G. With my phone that cuts off data and I can 'Data connectivity lost' warnings.

4G is great, but man if you can't get data on 3G this is a big-time loser.

My wife and I were in a movie theater tonight, and again I had zero connectivity while my wife's IPhone sailed along. This is just getting horrible.

were you on 3 or 4G? Does the phone work after a reboot? Next time it does it try and toggle it in and out of airplane mode and see if that helps.

My phone seems to drop out of 4G and get stuck in 3G, I really want to keep this phone and not go back to the TB but not holding 4G would be a big killer for me. Mine works in 3G but compared to 4G it is like using dial up :)

Dubge, yes, I tried everything. Going in and out of airplane mode, rebooting, even selecting "CDMA only" and then back to LTE...nothing helps. You get the Charge's translation of the "blue screen of death", 'Network connectivity problem".

The problem occurs either when I drop from a 4G signal to a 3G signal or simply starting in an area with a 3G signal. I was on with tech support and he became very concerned himself since he too just got a Charge. I mentioned that I had seen a number of people complaining about this issue on a number of forums. We were trying to determine if there was a geographical area where this occurs, but since most people don't mention where they're from, it's hard to say. I'm in the N.Y. area on Long Island.

I'd actually be MUCH happier with your problem. Imagine having a situation where it's 4G or nothing. 3G is simply inoperable from a data standpoint, zero connectivity. I should also note that they swapped out my phone yesterday with a new one and I have exactly the same issue. So I'm guessing (hoping?) it's an issue with the towers not properly telling the Charge how to switch to 3G. Otherwise I would think every Charge owner would have exactly the same problem. Your issue is obviously different.

I don't want to go to the TB since I've read about too many issues there too, the most serious being the battery life.

Here's an update on this. I just got back from a Verizon store in Sufflok County on Long Island. I went there because I knew they had no 4G service. The issue that the Charge has is also evident in the Thunderbolt. In fact I couldn't get either of the two TBs to get out to the internet.

So there is either something wrong with the handoff from 4G to 3G in the Long Island area or there is an issue with the software in these phones. I sure hope Verizon is both aware of this problem and working on it.

When I was at Verizon I switched my phone to a CDMA only setting and rebooted. While set to 3G only, the Charge seems to have no issues at all maintaining that 3G connectivity any where I've gone so far. So this is truly a 4G to 3G issue.

I've had the Charge about 24 hours and have lost connectivity three times already (while phone shows 4G). Toggling airplane mode or turning wifi on/off doesn't allow any data to pass through. The only way for me to re-enable data is to restart the phone OR force it to CDMA mode. However, once in CDMA mode I cannot go back to 4G or use Wi-Fi until a restart. Really annoying and the phone's going back if this doesn't get resolved ASAP.

I really think that Verizon doesn't understand the magnitude of the problem. But as I said, the issue is not limited to the Charge, but rather to all 3 of their 4G phones. Even the brand new LG couldn't get out on 3G.

What I found interesting is that when you switch the LG from LTE to 3G, it reboots the phone. If everything were normal, I'd find that extremely annoying given how long the LG takes to reboot, but I wonder if they learned that when switching from 4G to 3G or vice-versa, you've got a better chance at getting connectivity by rebooting.

eeeek. I live right near Nassau Coliseum and am getting my Charge on Thursday.. hope I dont have this problem :(. I live (literally) smack dab in the middle of nassau county and verizon's 4G map shows awesome and FULL 4G coverage all around me.. hopefully I wont have to switch to 3G too often. But where in Nassau do you live? (I assume since u said you went to suffolk verizon to test your theory, etc.)

I've had my Charge for a few days and I've spent most of the time at home in a 3G area and I've spent about a day in a 4G area (downtown Indianapolis). So far I've had no connection issues and no reboots. FWIW, I've also been declining the OTA update.

i live in los angeles and i returned my charge and went back to sprint a few weeks ago.... due to the fact that i was having similar problems as you guys.

in addition to just losing data connectivity out of nowhere, another problem was my phone would switch from 4g to 3g randomly(im guessing because the 4g signal was weak). The only problem with this is the 3g signal was even weaker.

I really wanted to keep verizon, as i loved the charge and got great lte speeds when it worked, but Verizon really needs to fix their 4g issues before i give them another shot.

Delco, I'm in the Plainview/Syosset area, near the edge of 4G. I usually get 4G in the house, but on occasion (like this morning), I'll drop to 3G. Naturally I lost all connectivity when that happened today. I rebooted the phone and it recaptured 4G.

Man oh man, not good.

I think the day I was having issues with the gps and 4G/3G it was a network problem. It is working great now. I am having no issues with connecting on both 4G and 3G. I would try to do the hard reset with hardware buttons vs clearing data via phone settings.

Aha! Someone else mentioned that he thought the OTA update created this issue. Unfortunately both my original Charge as well as the replacement they gave me, were given the update. If I had known, I would never have allowed the update.

So I wonder if this is really at the heart of the problem.

How do you do the hard reset and does it wipe all your newer programs & downloads?
