Consolidate Messages

I searched the phone and forum. I can't find an option to consolidate SMS messages into one.

When we used Verizon, we could send and receive 1 message even though it went over the allotted 160 characters.

The phone will automatically break it up into messages and label them (i.e. 1/3, 2/3, 3/3). After a certain point it will send the message as one MMS message; I don't remember what that point is tho. Many of the newer phones will recombine the multiple messages into one message, so even though it's sent and received as multiple messages, the phone does the work behind the scenes. The Evo LTE and the S3 do this for sure; not sure what other phones do.

What about when it receives a message? I had 1 message that came through and it ended up being around 17 different ones.

When I receive a multi part text from another phone that puts the 1/3... in front, it combines them. Otherwise it doesn't appear to. There may be a way to force it to send an mms instead but I'm not sure how to.

Odd...mine are never sent or received combined. Is there a setting for this?

I haven't seen a setting. When sending it definitely breaks it up, but it'll show it to you as one big message. But as you're typing, the character counter will till you how many messages you've used and how many characters you have remaining. When receiving, it seems to combine them only with messages that have the leading (1/3), (2/3), (3/3)...

Never noticed this on stock messaging app or on GoSMS, but Chomp SMS puts them back into 1 big message.

I'm using Chomp... But regardless of which one I use, Chomp or stock, long messages send and are received split up 1/2, 2/2, etc. I wish they would show as one big message. I wonder why some of our phones are handling this differently.

That's what I'm screaming. My RAZR HD phones never did this. Could it be a Sprint issue?

I don't think so. I have a friend with the Note 2, and his texts are consolidated.

My Evo Lte does not combine messages, not with stock or any other message app.
