You don't! You open the "People" app. It syncs the various contact lists (accounts) you've made available on your device, such as Gmail, Facebook, Skype, etc. Within the Gmail app, just start typing a name in the "To" field, and your contact choices will pop up (the same as in the desktop browser version). The same is true for the standard email app, if you've set that up for other email accounts.

Thank you for the reply 1

I know this, but dont like it. I prefer to having the people icon next to the TO filed. By press it my contact list pops up so that i select the one or ones i want.(similar to k9 email client app). This will be more convenient when sending emails to multiple recipients. Really hope that gmail and stock email app will add this function.

Yes, I agree with you! It's not nearly as convenient as the desktop Gmail. I have no doubt that Google will continue to make improvements and add features. Besides what you said, I'd like to have more control over editing replies, and also to have a full screen view of emails that can be resized to fit the screen.

I suppose there are other email apps that do these things, but I don't feel like researching them. For now Gmail is good enough, since I don't use it extensively.

In the Gmail app, choose to compose a new e-mail, start typing the contacts name or e-mail address and you get a list to choose from. Pick your recipient. If more than one recipient, put a semi-colon after the first one is selected and type the first few letters of the next person. Repeat as necessary. No need to go to 'People'. Once you get used to it, it's not a problem.

The problem is remembering all members of a long list. With 30+ members on a list adding one by one is not just slow but a good way to forget someone. This is not a replacement or solution for accessing lists.
