Contact Name Won't Change

So I'm new to Android and I have a Verizon S5. I am having a weird issue with the contacts. I can go in and edit the contact's name and save it. If I do voice dialing it will know what the name is. But it is displayed everywhere still as the old name. I can only see the new name when I go into the edit contact screen. In my Messaging app (Google messages) it shows the old name, in the contacts it shows the old name. It is not the end of the world but it is pretty annoying that it would not show the updated name throughout the phone. Anyone have this same issue? Anyone have Ideas on solving it?

Thank you
Z

A guess: In your pull-down menu, is you Sync button active or grayed-out? Regardless, tap it once or twice to highlight/activate it. I'm thinking you may not have sync'd your phone data (contacts, etc.) to Google.

Go into contacts and verify which contact list is being used. I don't advise using multiple contact lists if you can help it. I recommend using Gmail for easy syncing.

Try going to the 3 dot menu and hit UNLINK contacts. Get rid of any that you don't use. I hope this helps.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Lollipop 5.0 Verizon.

Possible fix.

TLDon'tWantToR: Change the name for all accounts linked to the contact.

I know this discussion is dead but this was the first result in my search so maybe it will help someone.

In my use case i had multiple "accounts" linked to the contact and i had to manually change the name for all of them for the new name to be displayed everywhere.
I didn't search but considering that i was shortening the name, perhaps not keeping them in sync is expected behaviour in order to prevent loss of data.
It did not rename a speed dial widget on my main page.

I had the same issue (not on this device, but I think it's not device related) on Android 8.1. I have contacts only on my local device, not in google account. But in the contacts list there was also option to show viber contacts. Even after changing names in both Viber and local the change didn't appear (not even after phone restarting). I've entered viber setting -> General ->Sync contacts (I've unchecked this option) and voilà - contact name showed as expected.

I know this is a dead thread, but to fix it for my phone I had to pull down the menu from top of phone, go to the "quick share" option and turn it off. Then go back to the contact I wanted to edit the main name of, tap the three dots and click "edit default contact info". Nothing else would work that I saw being suggested bit this did when I tried it! I knew it was a syncing issue of SOME kind because I had to replace my phone (I lost it, and ironically enough I found the fkr after I couldn't find it for over a week and gave in to replace it, OF COURSE! ) I SWEAR if I meet anyone and they say their name is "Murphy", THEMS FIGHTIN WORDS! F U MURPHYS LAW!! 🤣🤣💀💀
