contact renamed itself

[Android Central Question]

I just noticed that a contact has been renamed in my whastapp- something i didnt do. There are now two people with the same name showing in my whatsapp but in the contacts they're listed as separate people- correct numbers under each name.

is there a way to change it? also, why has it happened and should i be concerned?

for reference:
* i had a software update 2 days ago.
* Also, several times in the past month my phone has also randomly said "no sim inserted"
(just incase these things also help diagnose whats going on)

Whatsapp contacts can show the contact's personalized information (set by each contact), like custom name, profile picture, and 'current status'. They might differ from the info you have saved in your local contact list if they set a customized name.
