I have a person I put in twice:

Linda-Home & Linda-Work, each with their own pictures & phone numbers. I assigned a ringtone to Linda-Home and that worked fine. Now when I try and assign a different ringtone to Linda-Work and it keeps going back to the default ringtone? I know they both begin with Linda, but since they are setup as two separate Contacts I don't think that would matter.
I originally had Linda and Linda - Work, so I changed it to differentiate it more. Any thoughts?

Do you have these listed as first name "Linda" and last name Home or Work? If not, it might make the difference. However, I have found with Gmail contacts (assuming that's what you are using?) that a common email address will confuse the processs. For example, I have my daughter and son-in-law listed separately, but both have the same email. When I click my daughter's email address, it shows up in the email under my son-in-law's name with his photo. Something in the Gmail sorting process, I guess. So, check to be sure the two listings don't have common information. Hope this helps.

I'm having similar issues. The custom tone for my wife works fine. The custom tome for "home" will say its set to the new tone, but the default rings. It won't even let me set a new tone an incoming call from my son.
Any thoughts?

I'm coming from the Droid Charge. (My Bionic is in the mail.) So I hope this works for you. On my Charge, I downloaded a ringer app from the market that allowed me to assign ringers to contacts in the ringer app itself. It is the only way you can do it on the Charge with Froyo. The app I used was Zedge. There could be others though. Hope this helps!

Hi, I tried that with the same results. I tried editing two other contacts that were back-to-back and it worked just fine. I finally deleted it and readded the same contact and now it works fine!

You won't need a separate app for assigning ringtones in Gingerbread.
