Contact Widget Appearance

I've always been curious, and now after changing styles, I noticed differences. I have some contacts on home screen that are round without blue icon. Others match the style and have the blue person icon in lower right. I'm curious first about the blue icon, is that how they are supposed to look? Second why the two different styles? They both go to same place, the contact card.

Welcome to Android Central! What happens if you remove the widgets that don't have the little blue icon, and then add them back again? Do they still not have the icon?

I just tested this on my Pixel 4 and every contact I added as a shortcut in my home screen has the blue icon. I'm just guessing but that might indicate a Google account contact vs a local storage contact?

I considered that as well, but assuming the OP has a Pixel, those phones don't have a local Phone account to save contacts to -- only your Google account.

True, I forgot that, but Pixels do offer the option to save to other Accounts on the phone; Hotmail accounts, Yahoo accounts, other accounts, etc. Maybe the blue icon is not present for contacts saves to other Accounts (other than the main Gmail account)?

Ah, good point, I hadn't thought about! Let's see if that might be the case for the OP.

These are all google contacts.

Is the issue still occurring? Do you use a 3rd party launcher, or is this the stock Pixel launcher?
