Just got my GNEX - upgraded from the Tbolt. Sense has a great 'people' widget where you add your favorite contacts to a widget on one of the home pages. Then when you click on one, you can set the default to either text or call or email them or have their contact sheet come up where you can decide what to do each time.

Does anyone know of a widget that will do this? I have tried the stock 'contact' 4x1 widget but it sucks.

Does anyone know of a widget app that offers the same functionality?

Thanks very much.

These should be in the stock widgets.

"Contacts" widget let's you select a person. When you click on it it pops up all the methods you can contact them.

"Direct Dial" widget lets you select a specific number of a contact. When you click it, it immediately calls.

"Direct Message" widget let's you pick a number to text when you click on it.

These are all 1x1 shortcut action widgets. Does this accomplish what you are looking for?

Hi all, I just got my S3 last week and loving it. One thing puzzles the hell out of me though and I don't pick it up in any support threads, maybe someone here can help. I cannot send someone a WhatsApp message from any of the direct messaging options (i.e. not from anywhere other than from WhatsApp itself). If I try to send one from the contacts list, for instance, or from a direct messaging widget, the phone just says the contact is not on WhatsApp and tries to send a WhatsApp invite via sms instead. I've tried this with numerous contacts and the results are all the same. Anyone have any ideas?

Another option to consider is using the 1 x 1 contact widget and then dropping them all in a home screen folder.
You could have one folder for my most contacted people at work and one for friends/family. This would save you some screen room.
