Contacts are a mess!

I LOVE the contacts and how they are all connected. However, I often find myself trying to send a text and seeing the same persons number 2, 3 times in a row due to linked contacts. Is there anyway to fix this?

If you do sync, you may be double syncing your contacts. Thats kinda what it sounds like. I belive once you sign your phone in with google, it automatically syncs your google acount with your phone. I still like keeping all of my contacts in outlook. So I deleted all my contacts in gmail and just sync my phone with outlook, while still being able to be signed into my google acount. I hope thie helps. This is my first android and i am sure some one may have a better answer but this is what I did. If you are syncing with outlook or what ever, delete all your contacts in gmail.

Also, if you open "People" and then click on menu > view, do you have multiple accounts turned on?

I had similar issue with the numbers showing twice. Some with hyphens some without. Hope this helped as I had two things checked. Thanks.

I have same problem and I don't have 2 things checked, in people I only see 1 number in names if they are linked, but when trying to send a text in message app or Handcent the pull down shows multiple numbers of the same , I found in Handcent an option to turn off showing social networks so now i got it back to 1, but I think it is a flaw of the phone.

Will unchecking google take my google contacts away?

yanks, i have that problem. my contact for a friend named Aaron only has one number, and when i try to send a sms, it shows the same number twice. but I uninstalled Handcent, so how should i fix this?
