on the Gmail PC side, i added a few birthdays in the Google Contacts. i selected "Subscribe to Contact Birthdays Calendar" yet these birthdays do not show up on my EVO. they DO show up in Google Calendar on the PC but DO NOT show up on the EVO. i searched around and could not find a conclusive answer.

1. what am i doing wrong if anything?
2. is this an Android bug?
3. do your Contacts' birthdays show up under this scenario?

thanks!

Mine show up. It sounds like what I'm about to say below matches up with what you've already done, but I'll type it out anyway, in case you missed a step.

  1. Open Google Calendar
  2. Underneath the Other Calendars section at the bottom left corner click on the add drop-down
  3. Click Browse Interesting Calendars
  4. Click the More tab
  5. Click on subscribe next to Contacts Birthdays and Events

Now it will show up under Other Calendars within your web browser.

On your EVO you need to make sure the Google calendar is checked and visible in the calendar settings, which I assume it is.

i figured out the problem. the sequence of how you add the calendars on the PC and the device is important.

my "extra" holiday and birthday calendars refused to appear on my EVO until i deleted them from my EVO and re-added them to my EVO. so if you have this problem - delete the sync from the EVO and then re-add them to sync on the EVO from within the stock Calendar app.

strange but true.

one last strange thing. if i add a birthday to a Contact on the PC/Gmail side - it shows up on Calendar. BUT if i add the birthday on the EVO's Contacts (People) App - it DOES NOT show up in Calendar.

can someone test this? Cory?

i read somewhere that the EVO Contact Birthday field is from HTC Sense so it won't show up on Gmail - yet it works vice versa??? makes no sense to me - no pun intended.

can someone please test?

thanks!

My contact birthdays sync, but I keep getting multiple listings on my Inc. Only one listing of a birthday shows on the Google calendar on my PC. I deleted and re-added one contact to see if it would fix the problem and now I have 3 listings for that person's birthday. Any thoughts?

Can you guys test this - add a new bithday to a new contact on your phone. Then see if it shows up on Gmail Calendar on PC side. Thanks.

Sorry for not responding sooner Gekko. I am experiencing the same problem you reported, where if I change a birthday on the EVO side, it does not update on the desktop calendar. It only updates if I do it the other way around. Even worse, if I add a brand new contact to the EVO, with Google selected as the account type, the entire contact doesn't get added to the desktop! I have to add it from the desktop and then it gets pushed out to the EVO.

thanks for testing. i tested again and if you add the birthday on the EVO it doesn't get updated on the PC side of Gmail Contacts.

HOWEVER - i tested your problem. i have no problem adding a Contact on the EVO and having it show up on Gmail. i see that you specifically mentioned that you saved to "Google" which is correct. i'd try this again as you are maybe mistaken.

i hope Froyo fixes this birthday issue. it's minor - but still a PIA.

Gentleman, sorry to bring up an old thread but I am a bit frustrated by this and I am hoping one of you (or anyone else out there) have found a reasonable solution....

I would like to be able to add a birthday or an anniversary on my Evo contact and have the Calendar on my Evo sync without any trouble.

I would like to be able to do without logging into gmail on my PC

Any suggestions are welcome
