Contacts List - Is it impossible to hide contacts on main list?

Have a million contacts, don't want to use groups with icons, I want to have the main scrolling list listing the contacts that I want to see on the list (not others).

On Samsung it was very easy to hide contacts on the main list. [And when I say 'hide' I don't mean incoming calls and hiding the name; I don't care about that, I just want a short scrollable list of contacts under 'People'.]

All HTC says is to create groups, etc. Why can't I just hide names on the main 'People' tab like every other phone I've had did? I'm probably missing something but I did search for a solution everywhere before posting this.

Welcome to Android Central! The main functionality is sort of the opposite of what you're asking, but would still give the same result -- you can Favorite or Star a contact, and then choose to display only those Starred contacts.

B. Diddy - Thank you for the response. Yes, marking as favorites allows me to use the Favorites tab instead of People and that does separate out the contacts I don't want to see. The only problem is that it displays exactly like groups with the stupid icons instead of a scrolling list. If there's a way to display that way I cannot find it. I don't understand how so something so simple and common has escaped the notice of HTC engineers: many people love scrolling lists, not icon boxes; Samsung has always had a simple way to edit scrolling contacts lists. I don't get it.

I would guess that it's a limitation of HTC's own contacts app. You could try a 3rd party one from the Play Store to see if any of them have the feature you're looking for. (I can't suggest any particular one, because I've never used a 3rd party contacts app.)
