Contacts missing on new S7

New to Android. Setup new phone, but did not like the built-in email app, so I am now using Nine. However, built-in contacts app is missing a bunch of contacts, and they don't show up in other apps, e.g. Messages. I've looked through all the settings that I can find. The contacts show in Nine's contacts tab, but don't show up in the system as it were.

What am I missing?

OK, so I fixed this in the end. Several attempts to clear out Contacts data yielded no results, so I decided to uninstall/reinstall Nine. Lo and behold: all my contacts are now available. Posting in the hope that this will help out others.
