contacts not syncing between gear s and galaxy s5

i cannot get the contacts to sync between my S5 and Gear S.
its only picking up 8 contacts, and two of them are me, one is a good contact, and two are poeple ive emailed today. the rest are google plus contacts, that i don't even have showing in my custom view contacts list on my phone.
I have 88 contacts i use on a regular basis and they are showing in my custom view contacts list.

what am i doing wrong?

i tried to chat with samsung support, but i think i broke the rep as she kept asking e to hold on, and eventually never came back.

One thing you could try is to go into the phone's settings into the Accounts page and link the Google account with all your Google+ contacts into the phone. Hopefully the contacts app should automatically synchronize itself.

That is the only account with contacts linked to my phone. I'm wondering if it would work better if I had the contacts saved in my Samsung account as the Tizen OS doesn't always mesh well with android.
