Contacts problem

After I downloaded the latest software update for my Verizon s4, only some of my contacts are available when I try to text. Like so many people today, I prefer to send a quick text rather than a phone call. After my update, as i type a person's name into the " TO: " box, it does not recognize the name I type. Sometimes, it only brings up my "Facebook friends". To send a text, I have to go into my contacts, scroll until I find the person, click on the person. I know this is only a small inconvenience, but it is getting very annoying. I have tried every possible thing I can think of, and I can't seem to find this fix in the manual. Any suggestions?
