Contacts Sort Order

First off, let me apologize if this has been asked and answered somewhere else already - I did do a search first, but couldn't find the information I was looking for.

My contacts are synched from both Google and Facebook. They always are sorted by First Name/Last Name.

I am used to having my address books sorted by Last Name/First Name.

Is there ANY possible way to change the sort order of the contacts on my Mesmerize to sort first by last name, followed by first name, instead of the default first name/last name search? It's driving me nuts trying to figure it out!

I know it's a minor thing, but it's just one of those pet peeves of mine.

Welcome to the A/C forums!
Go to Contacts,tap the menu button, then tap "more" and choose "Display Options". This should give you the options you are looking for.

Thanks for the help. Unfortunately, I've already tried this. I tried again, and followed your instructions.

When I'm in my contacts, click on Menu button, and then click on "Display Options," the ONLY option I get is "Only contacts with phones - Only display contacts that have phone numbers".

I also get "Choose Contacts to Display," and it gives me phone, google, Facebook, and Yahoo. Unfortunately, those just let me click on whether or not to display them, and don't appear to give me a "sort by" option.

Am I being stupid and doing something wrong? Or, should I have more options available that aren't showing? Or???

I've been a long-time Blackberry user, and for some reason, this stuff just isn't intuitive to me like BB was. LOL.

Arrgg i stand corrected...I was looking at my phone which is running the leaked 2.2 update. Apparently this is an issue which was fixed in thr froyo update. I just looked at my wifes Mez which is still running the stock 2.1 and no, it doesnt look like you can do that.
The only thing i can recommend if you are not comfortable upgrading to 2.2 is do a search in the marketplace for "contact manager". I did a quick one and it appeared there were a few free managers that will do what you are looking for.

Is that sorting function something you should have to use a third party app for? No, but google did fix it in froyo. Even rim and apple dont get it all right the first time. The other thing is this... i dont hardly ever open my contact app. If i need to call someone or look up their contact listing, i usually just do it from the home screen by tapping the magnifying glass and typing the first few letters of their name. Much faster than scrolling through lists.

As far as I know (which isn't much, since I just switched to US Cellular this weekend and picked up the Mesmerize only days ago), the 2.2 updated hasn't been released by U.S. Cellular yet. (Let me know if I'm incorrect on this! :-!)

In any event, once I can get 2.2 from U.S. Cellular for the Mesmerize, I plan on d/ling it - I'll just suffer with the First Name/Last Name sort until then! LOL

USCell has not yet released the official 2.2 yet. It will be nice once they do.
