Contacts vs Phone

Is there a way to merge Contact list with Phone list. I have duplicate entries and then some are missing from one of the lists. Is there some reason for maintaining separate lists? If using only one, which should it be?
Thanks for any rational advice.

You can select any contact and Merge it with another and it will 'join' information into a single entry. If you don't mind the duplicates and just want to see all information at once, you can select the option to Show All contacts in the Contact app's settings (this would show contact entries in any location in your device).

Most people don't use Phone storage anymore because that isn't backed up anywhere but the phone and any local back ups you create, so the usual route is to store your contacts in your Google account (which are, anyway, stored in your phone after all, but backed up to the cloud).

But if you have any entries you don't want backed up, then Phone or SIM card storage is the way to go.

Click on Contacts App>More>Merge Contacts

That should be what you're talking about.

Hope this helps!
