Can you get a continous heart rate monitoring during your workouts/runs? Do you get those charted in e.g. Nike+? Gear Fit didn't really shine on this feature so lloking to upgrade to S.

I spoke to a Samsung rep at my tmobile store and he said during active times, ie using the nike app it does do continuous monitoring. But just hanging out it does not, due to the small battery.

Shealth and nike + do continuous hrm while working out. The heart rate data doesn't translate to your phone or the Web though. In the workout history on the gear s you can see the heart rate graph, but that is it.

Having come from the gear fit, I do like this one better. Just does more stuff.

Heart rate from the s is so inaccurate that for my purposes its not usable. Get yourself a chest hrm if you want accuracy.

Accurate for me. Compared to HRM and note 4 as well as 360 and only +/- 2 or so.

Hrm compares nicely with my polar hrm add well. You just have to tighten the gear s down a bit

Good to know. But explain exactly how Gear displays HR continuously? Which app does it best and is there a special setting? Thanks!

Sheath and nike+ both show the heart rate. Just turn them on and go. What I do for an indoor cardio workout (like insanity) is turn on shealth put it as a run and just workout. Wish I could rename it as an insanity workout, but hoping that will be something added later.

In S Health on Gear S, start an exercise and you will have the continuous heart rate displayed on screen. It records all the history and has nice chart for it all on the watch itself. If you have a compatible phone (Samsung's 2014 models), you can use S Health app on the phone to show the results as well. Older Samsung phones don't work though without hacking through hell to port the apps that currently are only available on new phones so far.

Yeah it does have to be fitted secured to your wrist to get a close to accurate reading

I have an s5 and it does not get the heart rate graph data through the app. Is the s5 already that old?

Nope. I have not check those as I only have S3. I do see some nice charts in store demos. Not sure how they work with Gear S. The disconnect between Samsung products never stop amaze me. That's why I don't even bother with any new Samsung phones. Good thing their watches (I have both Gear Fit and Gear S) work pretty well stand alone.

To see your HR chart on the Note 4, you have to first make sure the ohone and watch have synced after your run, then click on the Main Screen item in S Health, then click on the exercise entry, then click on the Log menu (3 lines at top middle of screen), then click on the entry for your latest workout (first line of data at top), then click on the Chart tab. Whew, lots of clicks, but it's there.

How tight does it need to be to get an accurate HR reading during exercise? Mine is comfortably snug, and I get accurate counts at rest, but even at walking speeds the HR rate skyrockets and is way over reality in exercise mode.

I put mine one notch tighter than normal on the underside of my rest. While some of the measurements during my workout were erratic, at the end when comparing them to my polar the stats were close enough to count.

Just FYI, I have a Note 3 and I get the hrm graph sent to the SHealth app on the phone. Seems to work well. The accuracy of the hrm is another issue. I will try tightening it and see if there is a difference.

Hey, Yes. Quick answer. But--- I use the Gear S with Endomondo. I gave up on using the HRM on the Gear S. Too frustrating to see it collecting obviously incorrect readings. The Gear S bounces around quite a bit on my wrist where the HRM monitor gets it's optical signal readings so I'm sure that has something to do with it. However, I've tried cranking the Gear S wristband very tight to keep the optical sensor tight up against my skin and even though that kept the rate more constant, it was still way off. I compared with my chest strap band and my common sense on several runs.

I love the Gear S with Endomondo, HOWEVER, it is not a standalone app. You still need to have your phone with you. Even though I have 4g on my Gear S and can connect to my phone that way, it still requires a Bluetooth connection to work. Very lame. Still do like having my splits and other data on my wrist though versus having to pull the phone out to see how I'm doing.
