Contract question

Howdy all, I had a question as my current contract's ending as of tomorrow (Saturday 5/3)

I have the old nationwide talk & text 450min, udp, unlimited text. $80 with discount through work so i'm pretty happy.

My question is, what happens if I don't upgrade or do anything on Saturday? Will my account suddenly switch to something else or see other charges?

This is the first time my contract's up since I broke away from my parent's family plan so not sure what happens now.

I'd really like to keep my udp so buying in full i'm ok with when I eventually do.

Thank you :)

You should not see any changes from your contract expiring. Generally all changes require a pretty broad notification or your specific consent. Essentially you're migrating to what is considered, "month to month" and as long as your account remains current there is little to be concerned about. You are correct about upgrading your line, you will not want to purchase a phone on contract on that line due to the risk (high likelihood) of losing unlimited data. When you do purchase another phone, if you do so buy paying full price outright it will also not make changes to your account (other than possibly insurance and device specific features that are no longer available, etc) and you will still be on the "month to month" plan (out of contract).

Hey Darth, thank you for getting back to me so quickly.

Relieved to know that my monthly bill won't change. Once I buy whatever phone I get if I go through Best Buy, although I heard Radio Shack does it too, can I just call Verizon and get my account moved for a new contract? I don't have any separate lines so it's just my one.

As for what phones to get, I was looking hard at the Note 3 for a long time. Big phone but I don't have a tablet and that's close to being both. Friend has it though and said Samsung's bogged it down with so much bloat that he's not as happy as he thought.

S5 is nice but again, bloated from what i've heard.

I was looking at the Moto X but rather get something with 1080p.

G2 looks like a good phone but with the G3 coming out this month, might wait to see how that is.

I really just don't know what I want to do. It's an everything phone from me as with most from gaming, taking pictures, keeping in touch, etc.

I'm not 100% sure what you mean by this, but you should be able to buy the phone wherever you want without making any account changes and then activate it (either from the device or online) with no trouble. We can gladly help through that process at the time, but it shouldn't require any new contracts, etc.

From your list of devices I'd strongly recommend looking for more news about the LG G3. The G2 was a killer device for 2013 and honestly I'm expecting this to be an impressive offering as well. I personally have the Moto X and I love it, but for the size, etc considerations of the rest of your list it's definitely the odd man out.

I have the note 3, and no problems with it. All android phones have bloat on them. Install nova launcher and hide them so you don't see them, or root and remove them.

My wife got the galaxy s5, I'm not jealous one bit, I'm sticking with the note 3.

Look at the specs of the note 3, pretty impressive.

Do not upgrade your phone subsidized prices as it will require you to change your plan. Buy your phone from swappa.com There is somewhat of a catch to upgrade your phone through BB or anywhere else. I don't know what your data usage is but UDP is worth $$$ and someone will pay you for it. It does involve giving up your phone number though. Don't just give up your UDP to upgrade your phone. Pay full price for your phone if you have to and keep your UDP. Once you give up UDP you will not get it back. Before you buy a phone at either BB or Radio Shack take a look at the phones on swappa.com I have purchased several phones and sold a few as well.

Just noticed you have unlimited data, if that's important to you, you can't upgrade at subsidized pricing without permanently losing unlimited data.

My bad Darth. I was reading some of the articles on how to keep udp and people would buy the phone and then get their contract renewed with nothing changed.

Trucksmoveamerica I think it's just preference on whether it's too big for some. My Maxx had apps loaded onto it, but it'd be nice to get rid of them if I don't use them as I have a bunch i'm holding back on installing. I just don't know if I want to root my phone. Nova launcher just hides them?

Japetty I was actually looking on Swappa for the Note 3. Still considering getting it but will probably wait till the G3 and then decide.

I will not be giving up my unlimited data if I can help it. More and more apps using more and more data, and wifi isn't available everywhere or with great service so can't assume that.

Was at a hotel for a wedding last year and the hotel had ****ty wifi. Used my cell & pdanet for net access.

If you wait for the LG g3, you might as well wait for the note 4 to come out and see what that phone brings. But then again, there is always something new that is going to come out, so you could always be waiting.

With nova I just hide the bloat apps and I forget that they are even there, I never see them. Yes it sucks that it takes up space, but with 32 gigabytes internal memory and my 64 gig card, space isn't a problem for me. I don't know of any Verizon android phone without bloat apps.

If you don't have a tablet, the note 3 is great for a in between phone and tablet. I find that a lot of times I just use the note 3 instead of my tablet.

As said above, nothing happens when you move to month to month, your bill and features remain the same. There are ways to keep UDP and upgrade, they are discussed in the faq in my signature.

I have an RV and many of the RV parks I stay in either have bad wifi or they charge extra if they have good wifi. I have the unlimited data and my wife and I just use that off my S4. I am leaving for San Antonio, TX next month and the RV park I am going to stay in down there charges extra for their wifi (40.00 month) From the reviews I have read the wifi is good though. They also charge extra for TV if you want more than standard cable. I always carry my satellite dish and receiver with me as well and just pick up what I get at home.

My son works for the railroad and stays in several hotels which have bad wifi and my son has only 2 gb data and has to pay overages because of the poor wifi connections he gets in those hotels.

I am waiting for the Galaxy Note 4 which will maybe be my next phone. I did consider the Note 3 but decided not to get it as I already had the S4 32gb. Now I just wait for the Note 4.
