I would like to have apps auto update only if I can set a time window & require Wi-Fi. Does anyone know how I can do this? My rresearch. Came up null.

I don't know of a way to set a time window, but if you got to settings / Data usage, and scroll down, you can set the Play Store to do background data only when connected to WiFi.

Umm, have you looked at the Settings in the Google Play Store app? uploadfromtaptalk1362720488636.jpgSent from my rooted, debloated, deodexed Sinclair ZX-80 running CM -0.001 using Tapatalk 2

Lame answer. I, like the original poster, would like to be able to schedule automatic updates. Not just the 3G vs Wi-Fi setting currently available. And I don't want to disable data which would prevent other updates like email. I just want to stop app updates every single time I start to use the internet. Very annoying and intrusive.

If that's all you want to do, simply make the appropriate selection in the "Auto-update apps" settingsuploadfromtaptalk1368386070215.jpgYou can turn off auto-updates altogether, or only allow updates when you have a WiFi connection.
On the other hand, if what you want is to actually schedule updates at a particular time, or only when you're home and on WiFi, or only when the phone is docked, then you should invest in Tasker: http://market.android.com/details?id=net.dinglisch.android.taskerm - that will allow you to do pretty much anything you can think of.

Lame? And what have you contributed to the forum? We're not aware of a way to do what the OP asked, so we gave him the best option we know of. That's called trying to help, as distinct from your worthless waste of space which does nothing but whine and criticize. and since no one suggested disabling data in a way that would prevent emails from coming through, maybe you should learn to read for comprehension before you criticize others.

I'm not sure why I'm bothering to tell you this, since my advice is apparently useless, but you can prevent app updates every time you use the internet simply by not choosing automatic updating. Choose manual updating instead, and Google will notify you every now and then that you have updates available, and you can choose to install them when and if you want to.

Or is that too hard for you? Do you want the phone to read your mind, too? Maybe you can learn to program, and create an app to do this.

Meyer, why waste 3 paragraphs typing that? Lol

I think he was referring more to GSDer's reply which was condescending and didn't answer the OP's question. Which was how do you schedule app updates in a time window.

Casey - have you found a method to do that ^^ ?

You were looking for exactly what I am currently - I only want my phone to update within a particular time period and when I'm connected to Wi-Fi.

Anyone have any ideas? I'm rooted and am very familiar with Tasker. Can't believe this isn't a feature of Google Play.

I've been searching for this functionality. I can't believe it is 2015 and google don't allow you to schedule your updates. If fine in some countries clearly but in the UK they always start as I'm nodding off at nighttime so then get rudely awakened by buzz buzz buzz...

Is tasker only for rooted devices? If so, thats no help to a lot of people.

I too would like to schedule updates.
When multiple apps are trying to update at the same time, it bogs down the phone making using an app a pain during that time, in addition to draining the battery. I notice this when I'm trying to play a game and the video doesn't load as fast. That's very inconvenient. Changing the settings to manual update is not an effective solution, because then I have to remember to check for updates and manually install them one by one. Well, that's not going to happen. I like the automatic update for that reason. It would be great if I can schedule the updates to occur overnight when I'm asleep while it's plugged into the charger.
I have an app scheduled to silence the phone at night so I don't get ringing or buzzing when I'm trying to sleep.

It may seem odd to some of you that one might need the ability to auto-update, over Wi-Fi only, but only during a designated time period. Believe it or not, we still do not have basic Cable/DSL internet service available in all areas; in fact, 60 percent of the residents within my county DO NOT have the luxury of having high speed, home internet service with unlimited access and no data-caps. It actually took me 6 months of calling around before I finally found a service provider that could provide service at my home. Unfortunately, Satellite Internet is currently my only option. As some of you may be aware, Satellite Internet Users are subject to a monthly data allowance (mine is currently 20gb a month with a "free zone" between 12am-5am). It is important for me to monitor my family's data usage in order to avoid running out of data that I need for work and school.
Sorry for the long post, but I feel from the answers that some people were a bit confused at what Casey Burnett was asking to be able to do. I spent all of this time reading these posts, just to end with no helpful answers. If you are bored and want to have a conversation with someone, there are millions+ other forums and social media sites/apps that make that possible. Many of you are extremely knowledgeable and you have the potential to really make this site a go-to place for Android users seeking support. Let's try to keep that in mind as we interact with one another on here and let's not make users read through pages of nonsense only to leave them with no solutions to their problems. I am going to look into finding a solution to Casey's original request which also happens to be my current "need" as well. Also, not trying to criticize anyone, I would just like to see this site provide the type of professional support that so many sites are lacking these days. :) END RANT!!

I completely agree.

I wonder if there is not some app allowing to enable or disable the google play store...

Because now I have completely turned off the automatic updates (wifi was not a solution, because it had nasty side effects)
Nasty side effects:
1) When I connect to an android wifi hotspot it thinks that I'm conencted to a wifi connection...so it starts updating all my apps...bad stuff
2) When I came in the office on my work wifi it started updating there as well, everybody knows that it is battery consuming and cpu/disk intensive, which make it not responsive at such times...
3) It does even updates even when the app is open (such as my navigation software) offcourse my navigation stops or crashes ...
4) Since this year, my phone is able to conenct to all the public wifis of the country, you can imagine the updates....

Update with "Wifi only" is not a solution anymore

I just want it to update when it is placed in a charger, or when it is connected with my home wifi only (not my work wifi)

I wonder if the xposed framework has nothing like that?
