new to the android OS as i too am a PRE defector.
can you copy/paste text from an email? im trying to figure it out but cant seem to :(
my suspicion is that its not an option at the moment or ever will be?

HELP anyone??

Copy and paste is limited in the gmail app. Hopefully they change it. Load gmail.com in the meantime.

You can copy and paste. You just have to hold for a second what you want to cut and it will highlight green with green dots. You move the dots to cover what you want to cut and then a bar will come up. The first icon, papers, is the copy. Select it and it will say copied to clip board. Then go to where you want and hold down and paste option will pop up.

yea, that really pisses me off....isn't it common sense to have copy and past everywhere..especially with gmail on a google phone? I understand I can't copy text on a stupid fart app or something, but why not something as inherent as the gmail app?

Sorry, newbie here. How do you load gmail in the mail app? It looks like you can only add POP3 and Active Sync emails?

This guy must not have read the post, because this doesn't work in the Gmail app, as said before in this thread.

If you only need to copy and past from Gmail on an occasional basis and don't want to use the mail app with your Gmail account, you can always access the Gmail mobile site through the browser and do your copy and paste through that.

In GMail to copy text: Menu->More->Select Text, then press at on side of the text to be selected (beginning or end, doesn't matter), hold and drag to the other side of the text. As soon as the finger is lifted, the message appears "Text copied to clipboard."

At least that's how it works in CyanogenMod6 (FroYo). The GMail app is a part of Google apps package, so I guess it's the same in stock Android 2.1 with Sense UI. Can anyone comfirm?

there's no "More" in the Gmail App Menu in Android 2.1.

There is a "More" but it is only available when you open a message, not when you are viewing your Inbox. On a stock EVO (mine), the "More" option only brings up two choices:
1. Mute
2. Mark as Spam

So, looks like no improvements in Gmail app copy and paste until Froyo.
