I have an app on my old tablet and on my phone that I use a lot and depend on. I recently got a Galaxy A8 (with Android 14) and I need to copy this app to the newer tablet. I have run into a problem that is keeping the copy from working. The Android version on the old tablet is V3. My phone has Android 10 so that's what I'm using to copy from. I have used Samsung Smart Switch (SSS) in my attempts to get the app onto the new device.
On my phone, I have the app and some of its files in the internal storage. One key file is on an SD card. On the new tablet the name of the SD card is different than what it was on the old tablet. Thus, SSS can't upload that file. I can copy it manually but the app can't find find that file because of the different name.
I may not have the space on the phone to move that file back to the internal storage. Even if I could do that, the part of the app that allows the location of the file to be changed doesn't seem to work properly so trying to change it would probably result in the app not working on the phone either.
If it was possible to rename the (new) SD card (e.g. plugging it into a Windows machine and renaming it there) and make it work that way, I'd do it. From what I've read elsewhere, that won't do it. The app has a preferences file that has the file location as it appears on the phone. I have tried changing that but it doesn't make any difference (it still doesn't work). It must be copied to some other place. There is a folder for the app in the Data folder but there isn't anything in it.
Before you ask, I have tried to contact the developer but so far I don't have any response. He has apparently been known to take a very long time to respond to problems in some past cases. The old version of the app (V2) is no longer available on the Play Store. I have tried the newer version but it is very different and doesn't really meet my needs as well as the older one did.
I haven't noticed an option in SSS that would allow me to specify the new SD card name but even if I could, the app would still have the old location (with the old SD card name).
Any suggestions?
