Corporate Sync with Exchange suddenly wiped

Don't know entirely how to explain what the heck happened yesterday. I went down to check the messages on my fairly new Droid2 and noticed it seemed exceptionally warm when I took it from the case on my belt. The battery app confirmed it was up at 117F when it's normally closer to 80F. Didn't think much about it except obviously something must have kept it on while it was in there.

Then I noticed the problem. ALL content from my corporate Exchange sync was gone. All contacts, all calendar appointments, all email was gone. I verified the account still was listed and the setup looked right. Given the 99% of my contacts and my calendar appts come from my Outlook, this was an issue. I tried the following:

1) Put the credentials back in again with no luck, just messages saying it was unable to connect. Yes, I verified the site was still up and the credentials worked and the phone had Internet access. I also noticed around this time that the calendar was not aware there was a corporate sync calendar. It didn't show up as an option.
2) I disabled the wireless and this seemed to allow the corporate sync to connect, but still nothing came down. I just didn't get any more unable to connect messages and the calendar now showed the corporate sync calendar as an option (of course it said it was in sync and yet was blank)
3) I rebooted with no affect
4) I re-enabled the wireless and re-entered the login credentials. Now, I was able to get the contacts to come down but no appts or email.
5) I rebooted again and slowly the content started coming down. Of course I had to go through and reset up all of the contact photos, and ringtones, ... so while I was at it, I found an app to sync my contacts between Outlook and GMail and now have the contact photos backed up in GMail

I can see how you might not get new content if the Exchange server went down or something similar, but don't know how or why it would wipe all the Exchange content. Anyone got a clue??

I faced the similar problem with my Droid X on 22nd of December morning. Until the previous night my emails were synced correctly in my corporate sync account. On 22nd morning when I got up and checked the email, my corporate email account was completely empty. I tried syncing up manually and nothing worked. All this happened while I was on my business trip. I was completely out of email communication from my office. I tired rebooting multiple times and still my email account was completely empty. My corporate contacts were still there and I didn't find any issue with that. Finally I had to drop that corporate sync account and re-create it. Only then I could start seeing all emails in my corporate account.

I am not sure where the problem lies. Is it with Motorola, who seems to not get their hands around corporate email sync for any of their phones till now, or is it a problem with Google's Android 2.2.1.

The bottom line is that I still feel that Android devices are not business ready yet. Blackberry, Windows and IPhones are all doing great there and are going strong day by day.

Motorola is still working to find a solution to their Corporate email push issues in any of their devices. I don't know when they would see light at the end of the tunnel.

I strongly believe that I had made a huge mistake in going for Droid X for my corporate email when it is absolutely not ready for that.

I am a staunch Verizon customer and would want to stick with it at any cost.

Verizon should pressure both Google and Motorola to get their act straight for Corporate email sync.
