Android Central Question

I searched all over the Internet and no solution yet.
I have recently upgraded my S5 phone into S8+.

My sd card worked perfectly with the S5 and other Samsung phones I previously owned such as the S4 mini.

It's 16gb sdcard.

After setting up my phone a few days later, I was taking some photos that automatically save onto the sd and camera failed.
I lost my recent sd card pics and I had to restart my phone. Sd card wasn't even recognised. Had to take it off and put it in the tray again, then it showed up. I passed it onto my pc and formatted it then reinserted back to the phone, worked until I tried to save something onto it, found out later it became read only. I fixed this on my pc, then a few days later my phone had an update and restarted, only to find out each time phone restarts the sd card goes corrupt and becomes unusable until I take sd card off and insert again. I'm worried this will ruin the sd card if this problem continues, and what's worse is that sd card automatically dismount itself and I can't mount it unless I take it off and put it on again physically. I can't even restart my phone in peace either. Someone help please?

I'm having similar problems with a brand new 128GB UHS-1 sd card on an 8.0.0 US Moto G6 Play, XT1992-9.

I'd like to get a better understanding of sd cards under android.

Is there a good article on what actually happens when an sd card is formatted as internal or external storage. I get the impression that when formatting as internal the partition table is blown away and replaced with something non-standard.

Unfortunately there are a lot of counterfeit cards being sold, particularly on eBay. If these cards are formatted as adoptable / internal then that's when the trouble starts.
Buy from a reputable company and make sure it's has the correct specification for your intended use and preferably format it as external.
