Could a software update actually improve the camera?

Most of the camera's limitations are hardware related, obviously, but could new software actually bring some rest to our woes? The camera takes 4:3 shots, which isn't really a problem, but everything looks better in widescreen. Is the ratio a hardware limitation or could new software take widescreen pictures?

Also, most of the camera's flaws come out to me in low light. The camera can't even focus on a black TV screen in a well lit room. Could a software update improve exposure calculations to take better pictures in the dark?

I'd just like to know if any of the ugly photos could be fixed with different processing. Is this at all possible? :p

I think ugly photos taken by smartphones can be solved by purchasing and using a decent stand alone digital camera. ;)

I definitely think the camera can be improved slightly with a software update.

I think part of the problem is the camera's ability to take multiple pics quickly, and I think the phone compresses the jpgs too much when saving so it can buffer multiple images extremely fast.

Maybe an option to save images at a higher quality, while lowering the max FPS. I know on my old N1, I could select the jpg quality, but that feature is missing on the GN.

Only time will tell, but I'm mildly optimistic.

Also, try holding the camera button & allowing it to focus, then release it like a normal camera. Your pictures will come out a lot better. Tapping the button doesn't always allow it to focus and also causes movement.

This is a great tip that has greatly improved the quality of my pictures! I suggest everyone try this to help them achieve better snapshots with the Nexus.

Also, in attempting to dictate this post with voice to text, I found that it was only using my contact names, and not words from the english language! Something I'll have to investigate.

I've noticed that as well. I even went into settings and turned off the option that allowed the phone to use contact info for voice to text, but it didn't work.
