Couple of questions for anyone that's ported their VZW # to Google Voice.

I'm about to do this and was wondering how it worked for others.

1. How long did the port to GV take?
2. Does VZW just send you an ETF bill on your next billing cycle (I'll be terminating my VZW contract about 1 year into it)?
3. Is there any reason why my current VZW GNex wont work for someone else...like do they lock the ESN or something? I'm planning on giving the GNex to my son and having him just stick his SIM card in it.

1) Started the posting process on Thursday morning. By Friday Afternoon I received an email that the port was complete but text messages might take up to 3 business days to finish completely. The phone port is working fine, but texts are still iffy.
2) When you start the port it cancels your account and they should bill you your EFT to the next cycle, When I went into Verizon to talk to a rep they said its $350. minus $10 each month from when you started the contract. Also since your account got canceled your billing cycle should end right when you get canceled.
3) Verizon phones run on a different network that does not use SIM cards. As long as they use Verizon they should be able to use the phone, But I believe that sprint uses the same network as Verizon but you might have to get the phone unlocked to use it on their network.

Overall I was surprised at how quick the number port happened. Hope some of this helps.
