Hey everyone. This is my first time here btw, I've recently, well around August 3? I bought the galaxy s5. I was going for the s6 but I was 200$ short and I heard it had lots if problems. Before the galaxy I bad a Droid x2 and then a HTC evo 4g and needed that upgrade. Anyhow once I got the S5 I loved it. But the first problem I've noticed is battery life. I heard that it has a good battery life but I don't think so. I plug it to charge which takes an hour to fully charge. The instant I unplug it it go to 99%and 5 minutes later, even when not in use it goes to 80%. Thats my first problem. It occasionally does last a bit longer but still drains quickly. I also have auto brightness btw. My second problem is s voice. When I had the galaxy tablet 4 it work fine. Now on my phone it doesn't activate at all so I disabled it until I could find a solution. None yet. Next problem is I just want to now if anyone who has the galaxy ear buds had issues with them. They work perfect for the first 4 months. The after that they started tripping. It would pause my music and play it then skip it. It also activated s voice for some reason. It was annoying when I tried to sleep and it would interrupt. My last the update. Yes I'm a little late and I didn't even know there was an update. I'm on kit kat 4.4.2. And lollipop is out. I need 5.0 I hear there's issues but idc a couple apps can't do certain things because they need 5.0. For example on snapchat they video recording with the lens filter says "oops. Video recording only supports android 5.0 or higher". Whenever I go to update it it says system is up to date. Can anybody help? And please no "you have to factory reset" because that'll be the 5th time. Thanks. Also what are you're thoughts on the s7? I plan on buying it and giving the 5 to my brother.

Welcome to Android Central! I'll address the battery question.

First, be aware that when the battery indicator first hits 100%, the battery actually isn't yet fully charged. There's a saturation charge phase where the current steadily drops, while the voltage remains stable--see these articles for more details:

Charging Lithium-Ion Batteries – Battery University
Lithium Ion Battery Charging :: Radio-Electronics.Com

So in general, let the battery charge for another hour or so after it reaches 100% if you want peak battery capacity.

Second, it's helpful to see some battery stats to look for any common battery drain culprits, like poor cell signal or a misbehaving app. Charge up to 100%, then let it drain to 20-30% with normal usage, without charging in between. Then show us:

1. The main Settings>Battery screen.
2. The fullscreen battery graph screen (which shows Awake time and Cell Signal Strength).
3. The Screen category (to see total Screen On time).
4. The Cell Standby category, if present (to see Time Without Signal).

OK Wolfx Glizzy, I'll take the update question.

Thank you for your post.

There are currently 41 different models of the Samsung Galaxy S5 and over 3,000 different stock Samsung firmware versions, worldwide, covering 6 different Android platforms, Android 4.4.2, Android 4.4.4, Android 5.0, Android 5.0.1, Android 5.0.2 and Android 5.1.1. Not all issues will affect all models or firmware releases and your answers to the following questions will help in the forum's answers to your specific query.

#1. Could you post your Model number..

To locate this, go to...

Settings > More > About device > Model number

This will give you the model of Samsung Galaxy S5 that you have and which Android version you are on.

#2. Your current Firmware, (not just Baseband), version .

To locate your current firmware version, go to the stock, Samsung, dial pad and type in...

*#1234#

This will give you your, "Version", details in full, usually 3 lines of information, AP: CP: CSC:, which may all be relevant.

*** If code *#1234# has been disabled on your firmware, you can download and install, free from the Play Store, Phone Info Samsung and it will give you, under Firmware... PDA, CSC and Baseband, versions as well as your Product code under the CSC CODE heading.

#3. Also helpful would be your carrier, (service provider), location, (UK, India, Russia, USA, etc: ), and if your phone is rooted or not and running a custom ROM, (give details).

Thanks guys. B. Diddy, would you mind if I try your method tomorrow? And usually I leave the phone charging for 5-6 hours even though it inky takes one. Ironass, my model number is SM-G900V. My carrier is Verizon but I'm connected to t mobile. I live in the US and I really have no idea if it's rooted, it might not as some apps that require root after installation says I have to root. I'm sorry I couldn't find the codes. Is there another way?

Strange, Phone Info Samsung, starred above, should have provided the codes after installation. No matter, as you have the Verizon carrier branded, minority variant.

OK. The reason that you have not received an update to your Verizon G900V phone is that you need to be registered on the Verizon network to receive their OTA updates. See #1.6 of 41 Galaxy S5 models - Dummies Guide.

You can manually flash the latest Lollipop, Android 5.0, firmware by downloading it and flashing it via Odin by carefully following the instructions and video contained in the links of #1.11 of the aforementioned guide. Be advised that doing so will prevent future rooting or downgrading. See, Verizon's new OE1/OG5/OK3 updates prevent downgrading or rooting

Yes. You must do it NOOOOOOW!

Just kidding.:p Let us know when you get a chance, and hopefully ironass's advice will also be helpful (as it often is)!
