I created a custom boot animation and cannot get it to work for the life of me.

I have tried pushing it to system/media like 30 times with no success.

Tried multiple combinations of permissions settings..no dice!

Anyone?

Thanks

I believe, and I could be wrong, but I think you have to go into the root of the system and place the file where your current boot animation is, then rename the original as something that the system won't use. I messed around with mine a long while back and soft-bricked it. I wouldn't recommend this if you don't have experience with Rooting. Good Luck!

I had this problem and then learned that Samsung uses a proprietary .qmg format instead of the bootanimation.zip. Follow the instructions in this link and you should be good. Homemade Bootanimations Collection + How To Install/make + Enable/Disable - xda-developers. When the enable file is flashed it allows you to use bootanimation.zip files in the /data/local folder. Important: Make sure you download the disable file because if you have a bootanimation go bad you will be grateful to have it. I was locked out of my phone with a bad animation and was very grateful. Basically it restores the default bootanimation and allows you to get back in and fix the problem. You obviously need to be rooted and a root browser to mount and change permissions.

You can then manually place the bootanimation.zip file in the folder /data/local or use an app like ROM Toolbox. I use ROM Toolbox because it's automated, has a lot of animations to download and a lot of other usable features.
