Clock Work Mod now officially supports or Sprint GS3. Now more beta's that we've been using. You can get it here for free and flash with mobile odin ($4.99 at google play). Or you can go the cheaper way and download the free version of ROM Manager from the play store and do it the easy way with out adding to the Flash counts (I think).

To do it with rom manager, just install the free version from the play store. After installing open rom manager. At the very top choose flash clockworkmod recovery. You will pick your sprint galaxy s3 from the list. It will install the official CWM Recovery to your phone. When complete, it will offer you an upgrade to the touch version for $1.99. say yes and choose payment method. I choose to pay with my playstore account.
To do it with ROM Manager you must be already rooted with any version of cwm recovery.

To install from Mobile Odin. Go to the playstore and buy mobile odin ($4.99) Download the file from the link above. Rename the file recovery.img and Place on root of sd. In Mobile Odin go to "Select File" then select the recovery.img
NOTE: I'm not entirely sure if it needs to go on the ext sd or the phone sd. Put it in both places and you can always delete them later. :)

I don't normally suggest using ROM Manager but in this case it's so much easier. It does everything for you. It won't break root and it sticks 1st time every time. And since your not using odin or going into download mode, I don't think it will add to your flash count.

Just to let you know that I don't think this version saves backups to the external sd card. I'll check back tomorrow with a definite answer.

Edit: I am wrong. It is backing up to my external sd card. I had several backups on my phone and got mixed up.

Good info thanks. Definitly looks like Rom manager is the way to go for this.

I installed CWM via rom manager (not touch) and tried to do a backup and it errored out in CWM. I just flashed back to the recovery from team epic in Odin and stopped using rom manager.

Anyone else having issues with backups?

I've completed 3 backups none have had any errors. Haven't restored yet though. Perhaps I should give it a try. I do however have touch.

It still puts the date as 1970.

It looks like the CWM version installed by rom manager will backup to the ext SD card if done manually, but cannot see any backups in the app UI.

Even after updating to the newest version still fails on backups initiated from the app UI.

(again, this is all non-touch/free version)

Absolutely. Never use the app for loading roms or backing up. It's a POS. The only thing I use it for is to flash the recovery. It has already been removed from my phone now that I have the recovery.

If you guys are using ROM Manager to do your backups, that is your problem. ROM Manager is a POS for anything other than flashing recovery.

I prefer to use it for backups so I can rename them. It makes my life much easier when flipping between roms.

You're absolutely right... Works just fine if you go onto recovery without the app!

That's stupid. And to think... I used to use it all the time on my og EVO.

If I'm already rooted with a recovery should I still do this? I'm kind of confused with what the difference is between this CWM and the one that I got on my phone when I rooted. Thanks for the help.

Koush, the originating developer that created clockworkMod advanced it to THIS cwmTOUCH version, allowing you to do everything you already do w/ your current CWM but w/out having to use the physical buttons or volume rocker to make changes on your device.

If you prefer your current version, no biggie, but it won't hurt to try CWM Touch either.

Have you guys heard of flash image GUI? it's a really great an easy app that you guys can download through the market for a couple bucks or you can download it through the developers website for free, but it will be a older version. I used our when I had my nexus s 4g and cwm touch was released for it. I even posted the link for it a while back on one of the threads on the ns4g forum :)

Yup, sure have. I've used it before on my nexus s4g. But really haven't seen the need on this phone as most things will be flashed through CWM. I emailed the developers to see if our phone is supported but haven't received a reply yet.

Ok kewl, I was suggesting an alternative to paying for Rom manager and mobile ODIN by using flash image GUI, since its free and you don't have to pay to flash the cwm touch image file. That's why I used it on the NS4G. Maybe a brave soul with a kind heart wouldn't mind testing the APK to see if it works and flashes CWM Touch correctly? :D
