So I made it to cyanogenmod 7 today only to find out my phone has no reception signal, or 3g signal; I'm not in a 4g area until the towers activate. How do I configure my phone to get signal? Also, what is a radio and why, how is it important, and how to install a new one?

Thanks

A radio is the software that runs your cellular signals, among other signals. You need the one compatible with your ROM. Or the phone won't be a phone.

ok, that being said, how do I upgrade my radio and which radio to upgrade to?

Here is the link for some gingerbread radios: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154010.

You would download and flash the radio just like you would a rom.

Just to clear things up for you..
ROMs are flashed through ClockworkMod Recovery.. you need an app called ROM Manager to install it.

Radios are upgraded with HBOOT.. power on the phone while holding the volume down key at the same time until the phone starts up into hboot.

For CM7.. you will need one of the MR2 radios or Chingys radio.. links are in the guide.
