I have the D6653 Xperia z3 running D6603 software and I'm only getting HSPA+
Do I need to be back on D6653 software to get LTE?

Yes! Absolutely. I'm not a hardware expert, but the reason for the different naming for each device is because they have different hardware canifigurations. You are risking serious problems by installing a ROM that's not meant for your hardware. I'm actually puzzled as to how you managed to do it? It could be that the differences are minor, but unless you get a notification from Sony telling you to do it, you should never install anything but the stock ROMS unless you absolutely know what your doing!

My advice, go back to the stock ROM for your device as fast as possible because I doubt that Sony would cover any problems or damage...
