My son wants a ipod touch 4th gen well with money being tight this time of yr no overtime...
My cousin has tha Evo 4G stock with tha white back plate for sell.
It has a broken glass screen and a bad ESN # out standing bill.it works great he wants $30 for it..
If i get it and order a new glass screen im looking around $50 invested..
Thinkin of doing this and give it to my son as an ipod..
Just wondering what yalls thoughts is?
Would it function just as good?
Or wod he not like it..he's 11yrs old

He's 11! He wants an iPod Touch. As much as a "status" thing as the "name" and mp3 player.

Remember that to download music on an iPod you need iTunes and an account (there therefore money!) I truly despise iTunes, so that is my issue.

If you show your son some of the benefits of an Android with Wi-Fi capabilities, he may love it. Especially if he is into music. With Android, most songs are available (free)....Play it on some extremely cool looking media players. Perfect for me (and my college aged daughter).

That being said, I have a 14 year old daughter as well. IPod Touch all the way. Since her iTunes account is empty, she waits for gift cards for Chanukah. Or...I download song to phone. Transfer to pc. Finagle them into her iTunes account. Connect iPod to pc. Transfer....You get the idea! She wants the app store (only free apps for now...) And the cache to say "I have an iPod...

True i can c yr point.. it would b cheaper and less restrictions..yea we have wifi and he loves my Evo 4G.. i havent told him yet but yr right.. he could probally do more things then what he could on a Ipod..
My daughter has some app on her ipod that gives her a cell # and we can txt back n forth as long as she has wifi..
Im sure theres an app for Android that would allow him to tha same..

Finagle them into iTunes?? You really find it that difficult to use iTunes? I really do not understand all the Apple hate. I honestly can't wait to get my iPhone. And I have a perfectly good, working Evo 4G that will collect dust in my drawer, just like my Instinct and Pre. Ah well...to each his own. (or hers)

Get him the evo, fix the screen, buy him a larger micro SD card if he needs it since it only comes with 8gb stock and basic ipods come with 16gb min.

There are plenty of apps to text and even talk for free over a wifi network.

This phone has a larger and much better screen IMO.

Make sure to turn data off to save battery and only have wifi going.

So many places to download free music or listen to streaming music such as iheartradio or my favorite Pandora.

Also to add if the esn ever clears then you have a evo for a backup phone.

It's not that iTunes is hard to use.

It's more the fact that Apple makes you do EVERYTHING with iTunes. Once you start using it, you are stuck in iWorld.

With Android I can download music from wherever I want. I can easily transfer the mp3 files from my phone to any computer or vice versa, no special sync software needed. Can't do this with any iDevice.

With an iPhone, your contacts are saved in iTunes. Get a new phone and you have to hook it up to your computer and use iTunes to transfer your contacts. With Android, you just sign in to your Google account and everything is there.

Once you use an iPhone, Apple pretty much has you locked in their ecosystem. That's really my only gripe with them. There's no question that Apple makes amazing products.

Not to mention, iTunes is a huge, resource hogging piece of software that I just don't want on my computer.
