Welcome to Android Central. :)

Have you tried a Cache Partition wipe?

It would also be worth posting in the S5 forum, since this may be a problem specific to that device, or at least certain versions of it.
Incidentally, by 'internet', do you mean 'mobile data'?

This guide from T-Mobile - it doesn't matter if you don't use a T-Mobile device - explains it quite clearly. Note that it can sometimes be tricky to get the button-pressing just right, but you should get there eventually. Note also that step 1, Turn off the device, means Power Off fully, by long-pressing the power button, not just switch off.

There's another description of it here, third post:

Take care not to accidentally do a Factory /Master reset, which would wipe the phone.
Any problems, get back to us.

It may also be a "feature" set by your carrier - if you disable wifi, mobile data automatically comes on, so you're never without an internet connection (and you use more data). Some carriers are like that. (If that's the case, and you can't flash the older version [or don't want to], your only option may be a custom ROM based on the updated version, but without the "feature".)
