I was just wondering if you all are big data users. I use bout 1 gb on Verizon. we have to people in the house and use about 150 gb a onth i think. It went up when we got rid of tv. We only pay $40.00 plus taxes for home internet. That is a good deal.

I use around 100-150 GB on mobile (myself)

And

150-300 GB a month on home internet (comcast) -- Also myself.

And, we wonder why unlimited has gone the way of the dinosaurs

It went away since not many paid for unlimited minutes and they could make more off limited. That is a big reason... Cash. Not the only but that was more a motivator than data usage I can promise that.

Nah... he's an outlier. The vast majority of users use a lot less data... the reason why unlimited data plans went away is like he said... money. By going to tiered plans, companies can shake their users down for more cash.

For every user churning through 100+GBs of mobile data, there are hundreds, if not thousands, who barely touch 1GB.

Also look how often Verizon and AT&T have altered their data tiers...at least twice in the past 5 years as I recall. AT&T just did a change a couple months back.

Yeah, I think those two are trying to maximize the pain points.... but adjusting their data caps, I think they are trying to maximize the amount of 'tweener' users who buy more data than they need 'just in case'. Then they go and set data overage charges high.... almost extorting you into taking that next higher plan.

As as aside... overage charges are, in my eyes, evil. Verizon charges, what, $15 per GB? Considering that most of their lower plans go up in $10/GB increments, they are charging customers a $5 surcharge for going over just because they can. Why not just bump them to that higher rate plan for that month only (or better yet, just throttle them down to a lower speed without charging them like T-Mobile)? I mean, lets say that someone wasn't paying attention and their kids decided to stream the Harry Potter franchise and they used 20GB on a 1GB plan... you'll rack up close to $300 in overage charges, $180 more than the 20GB plan charges. Why? What's the point? "You should be paying us more so we'll penalize you to make our point"?

Hopefully, Verizon isn't slimy enough to do that and they'll work with their customers who might have run into this, but I wouldn't put it past them.

Oh, and by the way.... I have the 2 unlimited for $100 plan from T-Mobile and thumb my nose at Verizon and AT&T's pricing plans.

prices of data

With the network they have the data plans and prices really suck. $30.00 for just 1 gb. They are crazy if you ask me. A gig can be used in no time. Tmo has the write idea and the work great in alot of places.

This is so true if T-Mobile works in your area they are number one choice. If not them go to cricket it is prepaid. Verizon is wonderful but their plans are not reasonable.I as well hate the upgrade fees and wine accessories as it is essentially paying twice in a way that you have data package plus minute package in maybe $10 per line or something but what they are doing now is a rip off for the consumer. We need more reasonable pricing structures just go and look at the Verizon website and you will be amazed at the higher data packages one was like 100 GB or $700 or something I heard on this forum. Why if you do not mind me asking did Verizon take extra money out of your account did you ever figure out the story to that. I am a bit concerned because my mom is on auto pay.

He terminated service so they automatically took his final payment. They certainly didn't steal, it was all in the terms he agreed to. Though a csr unfortunately misinformed him that they could delay in taking the final payment. Regardless, he would have had to pay the amount sooner or later.
