Date and time widget problem on ics

I cannot get any third party date and time widgets to work. I tried a few. They all are downloaded as applications and do not show up in widget drawer...just the app drawer. When I hit the icon it only creates a small icon on the home screen which serves as a shortcut. It is not a widget. I used to have a nice one preloaded on gingerbread. The only one preloaded on ics is a analog clock with no date.....which I have no interest in. Is anyone else having this issue? Am I doing something wrong perhaps?

My nice big analog clock widget (the one that shows up when you long press the screen, which of course only brings up wallpapers now) isn't working. Thanks for the suggestions on the others. Off to go get one. I need something I can actually see without my contacts in

I have noticed they take a while to show up in the widgets screen, sometime 30 minutes after downloading. Restarting the phone seems to make them appear a little faster.
