Dead Battery

The other day I noticed that my Nexus 7 did not charge overnight even though it was plugged in. I noticed that the charging icon did not show up. I moved the charger on the usb connector around a bit and it started to charge, and then stopped charging. I did the reset with the power button and the volume down and it worked. Then it quit charging again. I finally got it charged up to 30% after about 1 1/2 hours. Then it quit charging again. After reading the previous posts I made sure that the battery was connected and that the usb connector end was good. Still nothing. Then I bought the dock so that it would charge that way. I got the charging icon for about 3 minutes and then nothing. I can't find a battery to check it with. Any suggestions other than sending it in for repairs? Because of course I can't find the receipt or the warranty card because we moved since it was bought last August.
